The Details

Thomson’s history is closely tied to the Georgia Railroad. The city was named after the famous John Edgar Thomson, chief engineer of the Georgia Railroad system. Also, Thomson was well-known for completing the 173 mile long railroad from Augusta to Marthasville (present day Atlanta, Georgia) in 1845. Because the rich history of the railroad is alive in today’s town, the Sweets showcased this by renaming the Hadaway’s Building the Highrail Restaurant.
